The news hit Yvonne Nelson like a ton of bricks. She recounts, “On an ordinary day, I would have laughed out loud, triggering a series of light-hearted conversations and jokes. She shares her ill-fated encounter with a colleague who provided her with concoctions in a misguided attempt to induce an abortion. However, to her dismay, the substances proved ineffective, and subsequent tests confirmed that she was still pregnant.

Yvonne Nelson’s decision to terminate the pregnancy stemmed from her own experiences of growing up without a father figure. She had often felt like a mistake, and the prospect of bringing another life into the world, destined to face rejection from its father, weighed heavily on her. In her own words, she explains, “If there was a way to spare someone else the trauma I was contending with, why would I reject that option, especially when I was not?”
