Maccasio Questions TGMA’s Recognition of Northern Artists
Award-winning Northern Ghanaian rapper Maccasio has openly criticized the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), accusing the prestigious scheme of sidelining talents from the northern part of the country. In a recent interview, Maccasio expressed disappointment over what he describes as a long-standing neglect of Northern creatives within Ghana’s biggest music award platform.
The rapper pointed out that despite the region’s abundant talents, very few Northern artists have received TGMA recognition over the years. “With all these talented musicians we have in the North, not even five of us have been recognized or awarded,” he lamented.

Maccasio highlighted fellow Northern acts like Fancy Gadam and himself as among the rare few who have managed to break through and receive acknowledgment from the scheme.
He further mentioned Fad Lan as one of the promising artists who was unfairly overlooked in past nominations, despite his significant contributions to the music scene. Maccasio also questioned the criteria used for nominations and awards, particularly when it comes to audience reach and performance impact.
“How many of those who keep winning these awards can actually fill stadiums? Northern artists have proven time and again that they have the numbers and the fan base to pull massive crowds,” he asserted.
