Black Sherif – “Pop Star”: Ghana’s Iron Boy Enters a Bold New Era

Just when you thought Black Sherif had said everything that needed to be said, he returns with “Pop Star”, a track that reframes his entire narrative. Released on March 27, 2026 via RBA/Empire and produced by Joker Nharnah, this is his first official single since the global runaway success of his sophomore album Iron Boy, and it does not disappoint.

Where Iron Boy was raw, bruised, and built on survival, “Pop Star” is reflective and self-aware. Black Sherif addresses something he has never tackled so directly before: what it actually feels like to arrive. The pressure of stardom, the identity questions that come with global fame, and most powerfully, the reclaiming of who he was before the city, the tours, and the stages reshaped him.

Speaking on the release, Sherif explained: he made “Pop Star” to reconnect with the artist he set out to be. It’s a statement of intent rather than a victory lap, and that emotional honesty is exactly what has kept him relevant across drill, highlife, hip-hop, and Afrobeats audiences simultaneously.
