Media personality Bra Ike GH has stirred up heated debate in the Upper West music scene after boldly stating that no artiste from Wa or the Upper West Region currently has what it takes to headline the UBIDS SRC Artistes Night, one of the region’s most anticipated university entertainment events.
Speaking during a radio panel discussion, Bra Ike responded to concerns raised by musician Rappy Bwoy, who criticized the UBIDS SRC for consistently booking mainstream artists from other regions while overlooking homegrown talents. Rappy expressed frustration over the large sums paid to outside artists, claiming local acts deserve more recognition and opportunity.

However, Bra Ike GH countered that while he supports local talent, the reality is that many Upper West artists have not yet reached the level required to carry such a major show. “They lack the pull and popularity among students,” he stated. “Most of the students don’t even know who they are. At best, they can serve as supporting acts.”
His remarks have since gone viral, sparking reactions from fans and artists across the region. While some agree with his assessment, others see it as a wake-up call for the industry to invest more in branding, promotion, and performance quality.
