Ghanaian rapper Strongman is back with a new single, “Yaanom,” and this time he’s brought a certified hiplife veteran along for the ride: Tinny.

“Yaanom” is Twi for roughly “the people” or “our folks,” so this looks set up as a communal, crowd-driven record, but confirm the actual theme before publishing.

It’s a pairing that makes sense on paper. Strongman, born Osei Kwaku Vincent, has built his name over more than a decade on lyrical dexterity and punchlines, first breaking through after winning the maiden “Next Big Thing in GH Hip-hop” competition in 2012, and later sharpening his profile under Sarkodie’s SarkCess Music before launching his own imprint, Strong Empire.

Tinny, born Nii Addo Quaynor, is one of the architects of modern Ghanaian hiplife, active in the industry since the mid-90s and known for helping push local-language rap into the mainstream. Putting the two on the same record bridges two different eras of Ghana’s rap scene.
