UPPER WEST MUSIC AWARDS PLAQUE; MEANING AND SYMBOLISM
Upper West Music Awards (UMA), organized by Echosoundz Entertainment, is an awards scheme geared towards recognizing well-deserving music acts, pioneers, and industry players in the Upper West Region of Ghana.
Music is part of a people’s culture, and it goes without saying the role that culture and music, for that matter, plays in people’s lives. In this regard, UMA does not seek to merely award artists but to build and project the image of the Upper West Region. One essential aspect of any award scheme is the handing over of plaques to winners because the plaque is the physical representation of the winners’ achievements.

UMA has a newly designed plaque in line with its vision, mission, and objectives. The plaque which is being unveiled holds meaning and symbolism in every detail.
The Gold Color: Represents excellence and success in achievements and resultantly, becomes an embodiment of hope and a blueprint for attaining one’s achievements through persistence and hard work. The golden plaque also represents a satisfactory desire and a worthwhile experience that shows that dreams are not far-reaching after all. The burst of excitement, spotlight, glitz, and glamour make the moment unforgettable.
The G Clef (Music Icon): Represents music and the unity music brings to the people of the Upper West Region, Ghana, and the world.
Wa Naa Palace (the Symbol on top of the plaque): Being a symbol of Wa Naa’s Palace, it depicts the cultural heritage of the Upper West Region. The Upper West Regional Map: Denotes that although Wa is the regional capital, UMA is not limited to Wa but encompasses the entire Upper West as a whole and recognizes music acts from all 11 municipals and districts of the Upper West Region.

The Black Base: The bottom of the plaque where the achievement is written represents the origin of Africa and preaches oneness, which music has the power to do. It also symbolizes our heritage as Africans and should therefore not abandon our heritage as actual Africans.
In conclusion, the UMA plaque is not just an inanimate object but embodies both logical and sentimental value for the Winners, UMA, and the Upper West Region (and music industry) as a whole.
